| Meet Us | Swift Ecology has three directors who all work full-time for the company: Brian Banks, Johnny Birks and Lisa Kerslake. Together they draw upon more than seven decades of experience working in UK statutory and voluntary nature conservation, wildlife research, ecological consultancy and local authorities. |

Brian Banks BSc MIEEM Brian has worked in the environment sector for 28 years. He undertakes protected species and habitat surveys, monitoring and mitigation, and EPS licence applications. His particular specialisms include amphibians and reptiles and he holds survey licences for great crested newt, natterjack toad, sand lizard and smooth snake. He has played a lead role in the north American bullfrog eradication project in south-east England over the past ten years. He has a long-term interest in the management of lowland and coastal habitats, with a particular interest in vegetated shingle and wetlands. He provides advice on a number of Biodiversity Action Plan species, including the short-haired bumblebee reintroduction project in south east England. He also holds a survey licence for medicinal leech. Prior to the establishment of Swift Ecology, Brian’s professional skills were developed in English statutory nature conservation agencies, where he worked on statutorily designated sites and protected species and had management experience leading the Conservation Officer unit in English Nature's Kent team. |

Johnny Birks BSc PhD MIEEM Johnny has worked in wildlife research and nature conservation for 30 years, and has particular expertise in the conservation ecology of European mammals. He is currently chairman of The Mammal Society, through which he is involved in developing survey and detection methods, impact assessment and mitigation for mammals. He holds licences for work on several protected species, including bats, pine marten, dormouse, barn owl and great-crested newt and holds current EPS licences for bats. He is also experienced in the assessment and management of semi-natural habitats, and in conducting breeding bird surveys. Prior to the establishment of Swift Ecology, Johnny worked in universities, statutory nature conservation agencies and the voluntary conservation sector. He is well known for his previous role at the Vincent Wildlife Trust, where he acquired a wealth of knowledge encompassing protected species survey and mitigation, and gained an international reputation in the field of mammal research. |

Lisa Kerslake BSc MSc MIEEM CEnv Lisa brings valuable managerial and administrative experience to Swift Ecology, and handles the day-to-day running of the business. In addition she has a wide range of ecological skills, with specialist knowledge of habitat and protected species surveys and monitoring and mitigation work, including EPS licence applications. Her main interest is mammals and she holds survey licences for dormice and bats, and is also particularly interested in red squirrels and otters. She also has considerable experience of reptile and amphibian work, and holds survey and current EPS licences for great crested newt. Lisa has worked in the conservation and environmental sector for 25 years. In the three years immediately prior to establishing Swift Ecology, she was on the management team at established ecological consultancies in the English midlands. Previously, she held senior positions at Nottinghamshire County Council and Northumberland Wildlife Trust and was also the first Director of the North and East Yorkshire Ecological Data Centre. |
